Dear Friends,

In 2009, I quit my job working in Wall Street hedge funds, moved to Switzerland, and founded Beyond Capital with my husband, Hooman.

After working in finance, I fell in love with entrepreneurship. I also sought to marry my financial background with my family legacy of public service in Tanzania.  I wanted to create an organization that would use the tools of social entrepreneurship to do good in the world’s most vulnerable communities.

So, from our home in Zurich, Hooman and I founded Beyond Capital, a charitable, tax-exempt Verein (Association) that supports early-stage companies servicing impoverished communities. Our mission is to promote sustainable poverty alleviation for the poorest of the poor, in India and East Africa. It also means nurturing early stage companies through capital and pro bono support to spur growth, economic opportunity, and entrepreneurship.

Over the last 11 years, we have built a strong track record. By supporting 15 companies in India, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, we have reached 56 million people living below the poverty line, including 42 million women. Our work is providing underserved communities with access sanitation, affordable healthcare, gainful employment, food security, clean energy, and financial services – often for the first time.

Alongside our U.S.-based nonprofit entity, we are grateful to have received the support of individuals, foundations, and family offices in Switzerland and around the world. We know that every $1 we invest impacts the lives of 37 people. As a charitable organization, any profits we receive are re-invested again and again, guaranteeing a perpetual cycle of impact. Thus, every donation is truly a gift that keeps giving.

Beyond our work, I am deeply inspired by social entrepreneurship. Thank you for being interested in our work. We hope you will consider engaging with us, and exploring the power of impact investing to do good in the world. I now live in Dallas, and travel to Switzerland several times per year.

Warmest regards,

Eva Yazhari
